Discover the Chante Cigale domain – Châteauneuf-du-Pape by Alexandre Favier

Par Izzy Moore

A timeless wine that continues to fill and flow through the glasses of many, with no intention of ceasing. A family domain since 1874, the Chante Cigale is spread across forty hectares of land in the heart of the well renowned appellation of Chateauneuf-du-Pape, offering three exceptional vintages, including the mediterranean PGI, La Cicada.

Without a doubt this is a remarkable domain. Divided into 45 parcels, here the Grenache grape is the principal grape variety used in the appellation, around 60/70%, followed by the Syrah, Mourvèdre and Viognier varieties. The soil in the appellation is predominantly composed of the well known rolled pebbles that are typical of the area. The advantage of the latter is that these pebbles ensure the perfect ripening process for the grapes by both preserving and storing the heat produced during the day.

The owner and manager of the domain, Alexandre Flavier, takes great care of the appellation, having inherited a land that is rich in family history as well as modernising it for the future. There are six weeks of harvest that respect the ripening of the berries and vinification process for each parcel, which has allowed the domain to take a new direction bringing both freshness and vitality to the already exceptional wines.

The 2015 Chateauneuf-du-Pape, which you can find in our shops, proves to be an excellent vintage. Upon smelling, your nose will discover rich, fruity, spicy aromas. When tasting, your palate will uncover a well balanced, elegant wine with smooth and silky tannins. A true success of the appellation.

The “Vielles Vignes” brings even more complexity to the flavours and aromas of the wine, evolving with notes of cocoa and black fruits. Flavours lasting and developing on your palate long after having taken that first sip, well balanced with a strong tannic structure. This is a wine that will flourish over time.

Finally, the white Chateauneuf-du-Pape, a wine of fine complexity. The blend of the Roussane, Grenache Blanc and Bourboulenc grape varieties creates an array of flavours such as peach, apricot and citrus fruits. Concentrated and elegant, its long lasting flavour, richness and freshness will amaze you.

An appellation that continues to impress!
